MLB Pitcher Clayton Kershaw and wife Ellen Partner with International Justice Mission to Combat Modern-Day Slavery

With playoff baseball starting, International Justice Mission (IJM) today proudly announced a partnership with the Los Angeles Dodgers ace who hasn’t taken his eye off the ball – Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen. They recently joined IJM’s TEAM FREEDOM, a group of professional athletes and their families dedicated to fighting slavery around the globe with IJM. Collectively, TEAM FREEDOM is using their power and platform in IJM event, campaign and fundraising efforts.

In partnering with IJM, the world’s largest international anti-slavery organization working to combat human trafficking, modern-day slavery, and other forms of violence against the poor, the Kershaws are helping strengthen the global justice movement and give a powerful voice to those who otherwise would not have one.

“We are humbled to partner with our friends at IJM. We deeply believe in the work that they do – impacting the lives of hundreds by offering freedom and new life. IJM shares our heart for making life infinitely better for vulnerable children. Our contribution plays a small part in their huge task: breaking through darkness with light and hope. It's our joy to stand in support of this incredible cause," said Clayton and Ellen Kershaw.

“It is inspiring and humbling that the Kershaws have chosen to use their influence and resources to protect the poorest and most vulnerable people around the world,” said Gary Haugen, CEO and Founder of IJM. “IJM’s work would be impossible without the commitment and generosity of our supporters like them, and we are tremendously grateful they are joining us in the fight for justice.”

“TEAM FREEDOM’s impact has been massive thanks to athletes and their families like the Kershaws who are helping us engage millions of people in the fight to end slavery with their platform,” said Jaclynn Willert, Director, Professional Athlete Partners and Programs at IJM. “This year alone, pro families have raised just over $1 million for our Global Athlete Fund, which is making rescue possible all over the world. The Kershaws have done tremendous work in places of great need, and we’re thrilled to partner with such an inspirational family.”

Today, there are more than 40 million people trapped in modern-day slavery, and an estimated 2 million children are sold into the commercial sex trade each year. IJM works with law enforcement in 17 communities across the developing world to rescue victims, restore survivors, prosecute perpetrators and transform broken public justice systems so that they work to protect the poor.
